Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS)
Kingsbury Elementary Schoolwide PBIS
At Kingsbury Elementary, we are implementing a program of schoolwide expectations, commonly referred to as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
The schoolwide expectations at Kingsbury are:
- Respectful
- Responsible
- Safe
- Kind
This schoolwide approach will be implemented by all staff members ensuring common goals and language.
"Teaching our children to control themselves is far more effective than trying to control our children."-- L.R. Knost
Our focus is on building an environment in which all students can be successful and learn. In addition to our schoolwide behavior expectations, PBIS includes:
- A behavior matrix, which explains behavior expectations in each school setting. See the next page for Kingsbury’s behavior matrix.
- Direct teaching of the expectations by staff. Throughout the school year, students will be taught how to behave according to the four expectations. Teachers will help students learn what the expectations “look” and “sound” like in every setting during the school day. These lessons will be retaught and reinforced throughout the school year and become a regular part of our instructional program.
